Fresh off campus

A few years back, I snagged a summer job with a Downtown Business Commission that projected me into a  career filled with opportunities to foster my creativity, resourcefulness, strategic planning and implementation skills.

Working for the private sector, I spent the next 20 years focused on building sales and sustaining growth for the retail and commercial development industry through brand development and tactical initiatives.

Luckily, my roles also provided me opportunities to partner with non-profit organizations where I developed and implemented  community based initiatives.

OVER 20

INDUSTRY AWARDS

My dedication to community has also earned me a few recognitions like the Minister of Justice's Award for Leadership in Crime Prevention and the Mental Health Foundation's Vision Award for Outstanding Volunteer.

Time For a Shift

In 2012, I bid a bitter sweet farewell to my city career and opened up shop in my rural home.  I put my unique combination of skills to work for businesses, entrepreneurs and organizations who were looking for a creative partner that would inspire, activate, and guide their vision and goals.

The next few years, I worked with clients in a variety of industries,  One of the most meaningful for me was an animal hospital.  Together, with 15 dedicated doctors and support staff, we built a vision for the clinic, created a plan and got to work making it happen.  When we achieved what we set out to do and it was time for me to move on, I decided to get super specific on who my next client would be.  My growing concern for our oceans had me itching to do something to help the environment.

Be Careful What You Wish For

One month later,  I got what I wished for. I was asked to join a small band of passionate and talented citizens in Pictou County who were trying to protect the Northumberland Strait from pulp mill pollution. We called ourselves Friends of the Northumberland Strait and have spent the last three years creating a brand, building national public awareness, educating, and advocating for NO PIPE in the Northumberland Strait.  I even found myself working for 3000 inshore fishermen whose industry is the backbone of our Nova Scotia rural communities.

What a ride. From implementing one of Nova Scotia's largest demonstrations to rolling up my sleeves on a lobster fishing boat, I've been ocean deep in helping protect our little corner of the planet. This experience has strengthened my resolve to work collaboratively with like-minded people, businesses and organizations whose values are rooted in contributing to positive change in their communities and for our environment.

When I'm Not Marketing?

I live on a small hobby farm in Rawdon, Nova Scotia with my husband and a few four legged creatures that we call family.  Every summer we pack up the kids and move to our little cottage on the Northumberland Strait.

Like all good Nova Scotian's, I love my province and have a deep appreciation for its shorelines and the ocean that surrounds us.  If there's an opportunity to get near, on or in the water, I'm there. Even if it means a 3am wake-up call from a local fisherman.

I have a  little side hustle.  It's called Muddy Paws Adventures.  Two or three mornings a week,  I pick up a truck load of dogs and take them on off-leash adventures on some of Hants County's prettiest trails.  It's good for the mind, body and soul.  I get some of my best ideas hiking through the woods with a pack of happy woofs.
